Pavone's bamboo women's underwear works optimally for the skin condition Lichen Sclerosus because the underwear is equipped with a breathable and anti-leak crotch made of 95% pure bamboo. This fabric feels like silk, absorbs, works hypoallergenically and stays dry to the touch. The Pavone briefs offer optimal wearing comfort that will reduce flare-ups of LS.
Women with Lichen Sclerosus who are under treatment by a specialist are advised to lubricate with corticosteroid (medicated) ointment and the use of oily ointments. These ointments unfortunately cause stains in clothing. Therefore, women often feel compelled to use panty liners to protect clothing. Panty liners are made of polyester (plastic) so the ointments create a scalding effect which exacerbates LS symptoms. Pavone's underwear offers 3-layer protection made up of several layers of bamboo. Bamboo fleece is in direct contact with the skin, this fabric absorbs quickly and works hypoallergenically. Bamboo by Pavone is made of 95% pure bamboo and the underwear is permanently tested extensively by women with Lichen Sclerosus.
The underwear may become saturated with the use of the oily ointments. We recommend if saturation occurs, soaking the underwear overnight in soda crystals and washing once every three weeks at 60C degrees with a rpm of 800. During the wash cycle, we recommend that our customers add a cup of natural vinegar in the fabric softener compartment. The vinegar replaces fabric softener, not detergent. Natural vinegar works best as a fabric softener to keep colors beautiful, remove stains, reduce odors and prevent skin irritation.
For women with Lichen Sclerosus in the groin or very sensitive skin, we have designed the Waist Comfort Sensitive. This model has extra soft edges and the crotch is made slightly longer at the front and back. You can find the Taille Comfort Sensitive here.
Cycling with Lichen Sclerosus is often painful. This is why we have designed the Bikeshort for women with lichen sclerosus. In this model, the bamboo crotch runs widthwise through the thighs and lengthwise. As a result, there are no edges in the groin and this cycling shorts relieves symptoms while cycling. There is no need to wear additional underwear under the cycling shorts. This is because the 3 layer protection against ointments is already included in the 3 layer protection. You can find the Bikeshort here.
Pavone Lingerie designs its underwear in-house and is extensively tested by women with Lichen Sclerosus. Women with Lichen Sclerosus appreciate the following models the most: Maxi Giorgia, Midi Aurora, Taille Comfort, Bikeshort Sienna and Basic Giulia.
Pavone Lingerie works closely with the Lichen Sclerosus Support Network. The LS Foundation recommend using Pavone Lingerie underwear. In partnership with the Lichen Sclerosus Support Network, we are offering a 25% discount code: lssnpavone
Lichen Sclerosus is a chronic, inflammation-related and non-infectious disorder of the skin, which can occur anywhere on the skin but usually affects the female genital area. The condition affects women 10 times more often than men and represents one-third of patients in vulvar clinics.
The most common symptom of lichen sclerosus is itching of the genitals, which often leads to improper treatments for candida infections. Patients also experience sexual problems such as dyspareunia - pain just before, during, or shortly after intercourse - which sometimes leads to an inability to penetrate.
Characteristic white skin patches are observed during medical examinations, and loss of vulvar structure may occur in women. The clitoris may become covered under the foreskin and the inner labia may fade or adhere. This can lead to narrowing of the vaginal entrance, worsening pain during intercourse and sometimes leading to tearing.
Cause?
The cause is unknown to date, although there are indications that it is an autoimmune disease, meaning that the body's immune system does not function properly in the affected area, causing an inflammatory reaction.
What symptoms do you have?
*Itching
*Pain (raw distressing feeling)
*Tightness of the skin
What can you see?
*White skin
*Thickening or thinning of the skin
*Chaps or cracks
*Blood blisters
*Wounds
*Scarring may occur
*The labia minora may disappear
*Opening mainly on the labia and around the anus
*Clitoris may be covered
*The entrance to the vagina may narrow
Is more research needed?
The diagnosis of lichen sclerosus is usually made based on the clinical picture without the need for a biopsy. Treatment includes chronic application of a strong-acting corticosteroid ointment supplemented by a moisturizing ointment. Procedures such as dilationplasty or introitusplasty can resolve penetration problems, often followed by pelvic physical therapy in response to painful sexual experiences and an overactive pelvic floor.
How do you get rid of it?
LS is not yet curable. So treatment is aimed at:
*Diminishing symptoms, i.e. less itching, pain and soreness during intercourse
*Preventing change in anatomy/architecture
*Reduce the risk of vulvar cancer or its precursors
Treatment consists of the thin application of corticosteroid (medicated) ointment and the supportive use of lubricating ointments.
You apply the corticosteroid (medicated) ointment according to a personal intermittent lubrication schedule.
Because LS is not curable, women must apply chronic, lifelong lubrication with strong-acting corticosteroid ointment to prevent/reduce complications.
Studies have shown the following results in Lichen Sclerosus patients who were adherent (applied according to schedule).
*Less rapid flare-up of the LS
*Less anatomical abnormalities/changes.
*Less chance of vulvar (skin) cancer
